General Arlington History/Bluemont History

Arlington County, Virginia — an urban area of about 26 square miles located directly across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C. — was home to American Indian communities for more than 10,000 years and associated with major events in Virginia history for almost 400 years. Arlington is still a county, with no incorporated cities or towns within its boundaries.

Arlington is known for it's many different cultures and aspects. There are tons of different restaurants and attractions to choose from, and being so close to DC, many tourists come through this area. One of the biggest attractions of Arlington are all the things one can do outside. Everyday, rain or shine, you will see people biking, walking, running, spending time with family and friends, etc. A lot of people enjoy spending a lot of their outdoor time on the local bike trails which run all over Arlington, through many many different neighborhoods.






Bluemont—


Bluemont is a small neighborhood located within Arlington, Va. Some of the major roads that run through it are George Mason Drive and Wilson Boulevard. Bluemont has an area of 1.162 square miles and a population of 5,592. The population density of Bluemont is 4,813 people per square mile, where as the population density of Arlington is 7,323 people per square mile. Also the median age of Bluemont is 34 years.

The race within Bluemont neighborhood is mainly white. There are also a good number of Hispanics and Asians. According to the chart below, the other races are much less, but still present, and definitely still very present within the community.


Also the median household income (taken from 2009) is $134,065 where as the median household income for Arlington is $96,218. It can clearly be seen that the average household income is much higher in Bluemont, than in other Arlington neighborhoods- therefore it shows that Bluemont is a wealthier area of Arlington.
